night, when words fade and things come alive

Night, the beloved. Night, when words fade and things come alive. When the destructive analysis of day is done, and all that is truly important becomes whole and sound again. When man reassembles his fragmentary self and grows with the calm of a tree. ~Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
I find it ironic that it was the Chinese who invented fireworks, yet every 4th of July it's practically un-American to neglect shooting off your own explosives. And I'm not really sure that's what the Founding Fathers had that in mind either. Regardless, we had some fun times with sparklers, roman candles, bottle rockets, and small fireworks in the neighborhood tonight. Oh, and Happy Birthday, America. 234 years may be a lot, but Methuselah is still beating you by 735 years. Good luck with that.

Oh, and you're presh.

i have a confession...

...I don't much care about the world cup.

I know, how un-American. I just am not hugely into sports, except the Olympics, but that's another matter. If the US wins, great. God Bless America. If not, ehh, no big loss to us, right? Aren't we kind of the underdogs to countries (especially South American ones) who basically train kids coming out of the womb to kick a soccer ball in similar ways to gymnasts in Eastern Europe being born solely for the balance beam? Sure, I'll probably watch a few matches just because it's been on at our house. I guess the soccer fans in all of us are slowly coming out of the woodwork.

god bless america

Today is day four of the 2010 Winter Olympics. I LOVE the Olympics. I love any opportunity to be blatantly patriotic, and this chance rolls around every two years. Like most girls, my favorite event is figure skating, specifically, pairs skating. And, like most Americans, I follow Apolo Ohno in every race he's a part of. But I'm also a fan of every speed skating event in general. And who can forget curling? (Better yet, who even knows what curling is?) Basically, I just love the Olympics.
